Why Not Practice Pilates Exercise For Your Health?

The Pilates exercise system is practical in promoting back health. It is an exercise program that helps by being at the heart of the core postural muscles. It keeps the body balanced and is also influential in providing spinal support. The Pilates exercise is used to impart instructions concerning awareness of neutral alignment of the spine and help to strengthen the deep postural muscles so as to reduce and prevents back pain.

The Pilates Exercise Exists Since Early 1990s

Named after its originator, Joseph H. Pilates, the Pilates exercise program was a system that was invented in the early 1990s with the goal of improving health and for supporting the health of those who were injured World War I internees. This was followed by implementing springs into the programs for rehabilitation used on hospitalized patients. The Pilates exercise program was further translated into machines and finally unique equipment was developed which is now used in the Pilates exercise system.

You should know that there are a few important principles which are included in all Pilates exercise programs. Some of these are using mental focus to improve efficiency of movement while simultaneously controlling muscles, being aware of neutral spine alignment or proper posture while exercising, developing the deep muscles of the back and abdomen in order to support such posture and using breathing to promote mental focus and centering. The Pilates exercise program also creates length, strength and flexibility in the muscles.

At first, the Pilates exercise was primarily used by professionals such as dancers who found these exercises helpful for improving strength, balance and flexibility. In the 1980s the Pilates exercise was rediscovered and is at present a very popular form of exercise for those who require health benefits.

There are two forms of the Pilates exercise. One of which is using the unique Pilates equipment in private or semi-private sessions and the other group is mat classes that does not require equipment.

With the Pilates equipment, how they are used in the Pilates exercise is by the resistance of springs to create effort. The main piece of equipment is known as the Reformer which has a sliding platform attached at one end of its frame with springs. This platform is movable by pushing off from a stationary bar or pulling on ropes.

On the other hand, Pilates exercise that involves the mat which is usually taught in group classes, focus on the spine and the hips. The scope of the mat program is not as extensive as that of the machines.
